- Overview

Jobs where they are most needed, not where capital is concentrated.

The energy transition will be built by people. We invest deliberately in regional skilling so that the green economy creates jobs where they are most needed, not just where capital is most concentrated.

This is not philanthropy, it is how the business works. A lead-acid battery is heavy and its value relative to weight is low, so shipping units long distances for treatment destroys the economics. Refurbishment has to happen near the customer — which means every market we serve needs its own trained technicians, and employment distributes by necessity rather than by policy.

01 / Skill-building academies

Hands-on and online, wherever you are.

Accredited training centres produce certified battery technicians, BMS engineers and recycling specialists for every operating region.

Hands-on training

Practical instruction delivered by our technical team, covering diagnosis, restoration and safe handling on live equipment.

Online programmes

Remote modules covering theory, procedure and compliance, so partners can begin before travelling for practical certification.

Certification

Engineers are certified to ReStore Life standards before an outlet opens or a service partner receives their first job ticket.

Academy capacity is also what makes the franchise model work. A partner's team is trained and certified before the outlet opens, so a new store is not learning battery diagnostics on paying customers.

02 / Diversity & inclusion

32% female participation in field service.

Targeted recruitment, mentorship and leadership programmes have lifted female participation in field-service roles to 32%.

Field service in the battery industry is heavily male-dominated across all our markets, so this figure sits well above the sector norm. The lever that moved it was not recruitment marketing but the apprentice pathway below: entry that does not require a prior qualification removes the filter that excludes most women from the trade before they apply.

03 / Apprentice-to-engineer pathway

From school leaver to certified engineer.

A multi-year pathway taking school leavers from apprentice technician to certified engineer, with employment offered on completion.

No prior battery qualification is required to start. Recipients of CSR scholarships enter through the same route, which is what makes those scholarships materially different from a bursary that ends at graduation. A scholarship that terminates with a certificate helps one person; one that terminates in a certified technician role changes a household's income permanently.

- FAQs

Employment — frequently asked questions.

How many jobs has ReStore Life created?

ReStore Life reports over 1,200 direct jobs in technician training, field engineering, logistics and recycling. These are operational roles created by the refurbishment business itself rather than indirect or estimated employment.

Do I need qualifications to become a ReStore battery technician?

No formal battery qualification is required to start. The apprentice-to-engineer pathway takes school leavers through structured training to certified engineer status over several years, with employment offered on completion. Training runs at the hands-on and online training programmes.

How is technician training delivered?

Training is delivered by our technical team through hands-on and online programmes, producing certified battery technicians, BMS engineers and recycling specialists. Franchise and service-provider teams are trained before a new outlet opens.

What proportion of ReStore Life's workforce is female?

Female participation in service operations stands at 32%, achieved through targeted recruitment, mentorship and leadership programmes. Field-service roles in the battery industry are heavily male-dominated, so this figure sits well above the sector norm.

Why does battery refurbishment create more jobs than manufacturing?

Refurbishment is labour-intensive and geographically distributed by necessity. A battery must be collected, diagnosed, treated and returned locally, because shipping heavy lead-acid units long distances defeats the economics. Manufacturing concentrates employment in a few large plants; refurbishment spreads it across every market served.

How can I apply for a role at ReStore Life?

Open roles and the application route are listed on the careers page. Technician and apprentice intakes run alongside the quarterly partner onboarding cohorts at each academy.
